PEMBINA, N.D. (AP) - A Texas man working at a sugar beet
piling site was killed Monday after he was pulled into a conveyor system,
authorities said.
Mario Lozano, 61, of Rio Grande City, Texas, was pronounced dead at the
American Crystal Sugar Co. site, about 4 miles south of Pembina, around
8:30 a.m., Pembina County Sheriff Joe Martindale said.
Lozano was cleaning a beet piling machine when someone turned it on,
the sheriff said.
Crystal spokesman Jeff Schweitzer said the details of incident remained
under investigation.
Crystal officials said Lozano was a temporary worker during the beet
harvest. He worked for the Express Personnel company of Grand Forks. |
