Sugar beet growers will have the opportunity to check out
the latest sugar beet equipment, seed and fertilizer during the Midwestern
Sugar Beet Expo on Jan. 11-12, 2001 at the Scotts Bluff County Fairgrounds
in Mitchell. According to Chuck Gehl, the main coordinator of the event,
over 5,000 people from Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, Montana and North
Dakota will attend. "The event is a big economic boost to the area
because it is a family affair," Gehl said.
During the Expo, Gehl said Randon Wilson, the attorney representing the
Rocky Mountain Sugar Beet Growers Cooperative in a possible purchase of
Western Sugar Company, will be available to address grower concerns
regarding the purchase of the company. Wilson is also scheduled to speak
about the purchase at 10 a.m. on both days.
"He will give a situation report and let growers know where the
cooperative stands," Gehl said. During the Expo, Gehl said four $100
cash awards will be given away. There will be one drawing in the morning
and afternoon both days.
During the annual event, growers can tour 106 displays, featuring
everything from equipment, seed and fertilizer to grower associations, the
University of Nebraska and financial lending. Both Holly and Western Sugar
will also participate in the event.
"Everyone associated with the sugar industry will be there,"
Gehl said. "Farmers can see everything available in the industry
right here."
Farmers will also be able to book seed and fertilizer during the event.
The Expo will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission is free.
The Scottsbluff Ag Society will have hot meals available, with proceeds
going toward the Ag Society. |
