MEXICO CITY, Dec 13, 2000 (Reforma/Infolatina via COMTEX) --
Twenty-five of the 48 Mexican sugar mills that were shut down for the past
three weeks by a strike are expected to begin processing the harvest this
week, after authorities last week declared the strike illegal.
Negotiations between company representatives and union leaders are
expected to continue throughout the next several days. National Sugar and
Alcohol Industries Chamber (CNIAA, as a Spanish acronym) President Carlos
Seoane Castro said striking workers at all 48 mills have handed back
control of plant and facilities to the companies.
"Last Friday, all installations were returned to company
executives, as the law requires. On Saturday, preparations were made and
today (Tuesday) activities will begin for those (mills) where the harvest
is in progress," Seoane said. |
