MEXICO CITY, Apr 26, 2001 (Reforma/Infolatina via COMTEX) -- The Mexican government expects that U.S. trade and agricultural authorities in May will authorize tariff-free imports of 300,000 metric tons of Mexican sugar, bringing to an end a long-running dispute between the two countries over trade in sugar and high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), according to a report in Mexico City daily Reforma. Mexican Economy Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez in early May will meet in Washington, D.C., with Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) head Robert Zoellick to discuss a series of Mexico-U.S. trade and commerce conflicts including disputes over sugar, telecommunications and transport.
