FARGO -- Farmers made progress in the fields last week due
to warm and windy weather, but seeding is still running behind
in the state, according to the North Dakota Agricultural
Statistics Service's weekly crop report.
Soil moisture is also lagging behind recent years. Only 62
percent of fields had adequate moisture, compared to a
five-year average of 73 percent.
Last year this time, 80 percent of hard red spring wheat
had been planted. It's at 36 percent so far this year.
Sugarbeets, barley, durum, corn, soybean and canola
planting is also behind schedule, the agency said.
Ranchers started branding cattle and putting them in
pastures, according to the report. |
