Farmers and ranchers, dust off those golf clubs and prepare for the second annual Ag Appreciation Golf Tournament, scheduled this year for Monday, July 16 at the Sidney Country Club. This tournament, an adult-only event open to active farmers and ranchers, will bring ag business people together with farmers and ranchers for a day of fun and relaxation. Area businesses will sponsor the teams, the holes, the carts and the barbecue luncheon, while farmers and ranchers and their wives golf for free.

The business community holds this tournament to express their appreciation to rural people and to recognize the farming sectors contributions to the community. This is a way for businesses to show rural folks how much we appreciate their business, says Sharon Rau, spokesperson for the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. Farmers and ranchers can come enjoy a day of golf for free.

The first ag appreciation tournament, held last year, drew a tremendous response from area residents. Due to the large response, coupled with the fact that last year the Sidney golf course only had nine holes, the Chamber regretfully had to turn people away, something that Rau does not anticipate happening this year. We have 18 holes this year, Rau points out. We can accommodate many more teams so we dont anticipate having to turn anyone away. We had a wonderful response last year, and we hope for the same kind of response this year.

Rau expects the second annual ag appreciation tournament to provide a lot of fun for all participants and to outshine last years event. This event was new last year, and we are planning for added growth, with more businesses involved this year, she says. We want to have as many businesses involved as possible so we can convey to area farmers and ranchers how much they are appreciated. She adds, This years tournament will be bigger and better. Double the pleasure and double the fun with 18 holes this year.

The tournament begins at 8 a.m. on July 16. A barbecue luncheon, also free to farmers and ranchers, will follow the completion of the tournament. Organizers of the event hope all active farmers and ranchers and their wives take advantage of this free golfing opportunity, regardless of their golfing skills. Organizers will assign golfers in teams of four golfers each, using a scramble format. If possible, teams will consist of two farmers or ranchers and two members of the business community.

Businesses will also sponsor holes and have give-aways at each hole. Participants in last years event thoroughly enjoyed last years most popular hole, Hole 4, sponsored by the Roundup and Ag Roundup. The Roundup and Ag Roundup will again sponsor a hole, and the same smiling faces will serve the same refreshments, so dont delay. Farmers and ranchers, register at the Sidney Chamber office as soon as possible for a day of golfing fun with friends and neighbors.
