New York, Aug. 28 (BridgeNews) - The USDA sold 1.563 million pounds, or 781.5 tons, of sugar from Commodity Credit Corporation stocks to three companies last week for delivery to prisons.

Buyers were Imperial Sugar Co., U.S. Sugar Co. and Refined Sugars, Inc., officials said late Monday. That sugar is to be swapped for bagged sugar and delivered to 27 prisons and correctional facilities in the eastern and southern United States.

Buyers were contacted late Friday by the Kansas City Commodity Office in Missouri. Deliveries are to be made between Oct. 15 and Nov. 15.

In early August, USDA sold sugar for delivery to 33 prisons in the western and southern United States.

USDA expects to hold 740,000 short tons of sugar in CCC inventories at the end
of the 2000-01 (Oct-Sept) season.
