Company officials from Imperial Sugar corporate headquarters spent a day in Sidney last week visiting growers, looking at beets and touring the factory. Jim Kempner, Imperial Sugar CEO; Duffy Smith, Imperial Sugar Managing Director; Roger Hill, Holly Sugar CEO; Cal Jones, vice president of Byproduct Sales; and Bob Strickland, vice president of Beet Operations, arrived on Tuesday, Oct. 2, for the harvest tour.

Duffy Smith, Managing Director of Imperial Sugar, explains that management from the corporate office likes to get out, support the growers and the factory crews, and see the new crop. The action happens in the field, Smith remarks. We like to get around, see the beets, the factory crews and the growers at harvest. This is where we make the product and the money, so we are here to show our support.

He adds, The company, through its preplanned bankruptcy, has hit its targets within the organization, so we are truly restructured and ready to go.
