Despite recent rains, the harvest season is progressing
smoothly across the state, according to the Minnesota Agricultural
Statistics Service.
The soybean harvest gained ground, and the corn harvest made some
progress even though many producers were still waiting for fields to dry,
Monday's crop report showed.
Lodged corn was proving difficult to harvest because of strong winds,
and fall tillage continued with enough moisture to aid in working stubble.
Statewide, topsoil moisture conditions as of Friday were rated 2
percent very short, 14 percent short, 79percent adequate and 5 percent
surplus.
Soybean harvest was 78percent complete as of Sunday compared with 98
percent last year and 88 percent for the five-year average.
Corn harvest was 13percent complete, compared with 63 percent last year
and 41 percent for the five-year average.
Sugar-beet harvest was 80 percent complete compared to 81 percent last
year and 75 percent for the five-year average. |
