Moscow, Russia-- The volume of sugar production from domestic raw materials can reach 1.8 or 2 million tons in Russia in the next three or five years, Yury Mikhailov, chairman of the Russian Union of Sugar Producers announced at an international seminar today. He also reported that the volume of sugar production from sugar beet will reach about 1.5 million tons this year, which is almost the same as in 2000. Mikhailov stressed that this result will be achieved despite a reduction in the size of area under crop due to a higher volume of harvest.
