Scottsbluff, Neb-  The checks are in the mail for Western Sugar beet growers in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Montana.

Payments have been issued totaling $70 million for this years crop, company officials said.  That breaks down to about $30.22 per ton based on an average sugar content of 16.15 percent.

The payments are the best seen by growers in a number of years, in part because of increased prices for sugar, Western Sugar spokesman Kent Wimmer said.
