LD50 > 4,000 mg/kg in rats for DiPel(R) Technical Powder. No signs of toxicity or pathogenicity were observed. LD50 > 10,000 mg/kg in mice. LD50 > 400 mg/kg in dogs. DERMAL TOXICITY: N/D INHALATION TOXICITY: N/D. LC50 > 10.35 mg/l/6 hours for Dipel(R) Technical Powder in guinea pigs in which only two of 20 animals died following exposure to 10.35 mg/l for 6 hours per day for 5 days a week for 4 weeks. Five human volunteers inhaled 100 mg of Thuricide per day for five days without ill effect. CORROSIVENESS: N/D DERMAL IRRITATION: N/D. A 20% aqueous suspension of Dipel(R) Technical Powder was mildly irritating in a skin irritation test (24-hour application) in rabbits. Effects were reversible within 3 days. OCULAR IRRITATION: Moderately irritating in an eye irritation study in rabbits. Reversible corneal opacity, iritis, swelling, and/or redness was observed in all animals. DERMAL SENSITIZATION: N/D. There was no evidence of sensitization for Dipel(R) Technical Powder in guinea pigs induced by subcutaneous and intramuscular injection and challenged by inhalation. SPECIAL TARGET ORGAN EFFECTS: N/D. In subchronic oral toxicity studies in rats and sheep and a 2-year chronic oral toxicity study in rats with Dipel(R) Technical Powder, no significant treatment-related effects were observed at dosages of 500 mg/kg/day or more. In a 4-week inhalation study in guinea pigs, animals receiving 10.35 mg/l nominal (0.23 mg/l gravimetric) exhibited some evidence of inflammation in the lungs. A minor component of this product was shown to have the potential to cause lung fibrosis in animals.
