OTHER NAMES: Fat-hen, pigweed, white goosefoot. HABITAT: Cultivated fields, roadsides and waste places.
DESCRIPTION: Annual, reproducing by seeds. Stems are erect,
2-3 feet high, smooth, longitudinally grooved, often red or light-green striped. Leaves
alternate, variable in shape, 2.5-8 cm long, stalked, smooth, covered with white mealy
particles, particularly on the lower surface. Flowers are small, green, occurring in
leaf axils and at the stem summit.
SEEDS: Shining black, disc-shaped, notched margin. Lamb's
quarters produces long-living seeds. These germinate both early and late in the season
with the greatest flush at the beginning of the growing season.
Cultural Control Practices
Can be controlled by cultivation. Cultivate before weed goes
